Trapiche

Here is the oil painting demo I did at Trapiche farmers market Tuesday morning this week. Oil on wood panel 20cm x 25cm. First one for 2017. It is of my friend and supper model Lara Pulsar.
I'm at the market every Tuesday - come down to commission a portrait or have a chat and watch me paint. If there are any budding oil painters looking for some tips - come down and I'll tell you all the secrets.

Magazine feature

December 2016 I was featured in the local magazine 'Insight'. The interview was about my painting experience and how I became to be an artist. The article also mentions my Paramotor flying that I do in my spare time. The cover photo of the magazine was a 'selfie' taken the previous year as I flew over my local town of Periana dressed as Santa.

Verdant Solitude

Verdant Solitude
Oil on Canvas
98cm x 75cm

The concept of this piece was atmosphere. I wanted to create a sense of tranquility by restricting the colour range and harmonizing the subject with the background.
When I am painting I’m always fascinated with the effect of adding a little green to flesh tone. It really adds a sense of realism and life.
I particularly like the brushwork in the background on this piece. I used combs, rollers, pallet knifes and rulers as well as brushes to create interesting textures and tones.
The models name is Lara and the painting was made from sketches and reference in the studio. As the painting progressed I began to feel like she was gazing into a pool of water in some kind of enchanted garden.

Stella

Stella
Oil on Canvas
40cm x 45cm

I met Stella at a painting workshop in Torrox she is a professional tattoo artist and she very kindly allowed me to take some photographs of her one afternoon between painting sessions. I think she has a very interesting and youthful look and despite the fact it was bright sunlight when I took the photographs, I think the style of the painting suits Stella very well.
This painting was done in the studio from reference and sketches. I love the way she seems to blend into the abstract background. This was purposely done to draw the viewer’s eye onto Stella’s face.
